M. Rouss Oratorical Contest
The Generation
Now!,Inc., Ruby M. Rouss Oratorical contest was developed primarily to
provide a forum for all Virgin Islands youth ages 17-23 to voice their
position on issues of social, ecomic and cultural significance in a public
forum. The contest's development objectives include nurturing the
ability of our young leaders to think, present and speak clearly.
The contestants' annual presentations are judged
by a panel of jurists, scholars, and captains of local industry on the basis of
content and delivery. Topics have included addressing the exodus or
"Brain Drain" of talented young Virgin Islanders from the
Territory and framing solutions to cure violence in our community.
Since its inception in 2010, the oratorical contest,
named in recognition of soldier, orator and stateswoman, Ruby M. Rouss, has
awarded over $2,500.00 in cash prize to young Virgin Islands
orators. Generation Now! Inc. recognizes that youth are the catalyst
for social progress and inspired community engineering and encourages all
the youth of the Virgin Islands to participate in making their voices and
reasoned perspectives heard.
